The current western medical model uses symptoms to label an illness and a cookie cutter algorithm to treat the disease.
The same algorithm and treatment approach are used for each illness…
Even though the root cause may be radically different from person to person.
For example, let’s say you and your best friend, both have a chronic headache. Yours, could be from a hangover, caused by drinking too much wine and tequila every night to relieve stress. Your best friend’s headache, is from hitting their head on a cement wall for an hour every night out of frustration.
Same label, but entirely different causes.
Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen may help temporarily make the pain go away, but if you and your best friend don’t get honest with yourselves about your harmful expression of your emotions, you will both continue to get daily headaches.
Fast forward 6 months or several years later, of continuing to repeat the same behavior patterns that are causing your daily headaches and following the algorithm for pain relief. You will both, more than likely, add more symptoms to your daily headaches, such as fatigue, changes in mood, disrupted sleep, loss of interest in activities, and decreased focus and performance at work. Which would now be labeled as depression. In addition to multiple other long term problems, that could snowball over time and manifest as other chronic illnesses, such as, liver problems or ulcers from taking daily over the counter pain medications and diabetes or hypertension.
Going back to the same traditionally traded medical provider, with your new symptoms, will give you the same experience as the original headache. Simply label the disease, check the box, and use the same method to treat it.
More symptoms + More algorithms = More pills = More Chronic Illness
Now, let’s take a deeper look at the new label of Depression.
More than 100 million, or 1 in 3 Americans struggle with depression.
Depression is not the cause of the feelings of sadness, despair, and lack of energy.
Depression one of the ways the body communicates that there is an imbalance within the system.
Depression could be the result of :
- Years of frustration or lack of joy, because someone forgot what brings them joy or that they don’t deserve joy.
- A gut imbalance, food intolerance or allergy that has generated loads of inflammation impacting your immunity and the hormones your body needs to function and be happy.
- Chronic thyroid or hormonal imbalance.
- Chronic toxic exposure whether environmental or the people in your life.
- Extraordinary circumstances from high amounts of stress or a devastating loss or trauma.
